About The Event
What is the Bloomberg Trading Challenge?
The Bloomberg Trading Challenge (“Challenge”) is the first university investment competition to take place entirely within the Bloomberg Terminal®. The Terminal is the world’s preeminent market data and analytics system which means you will have access to a wealth of data, news, and state-of-the-art analytics over the course of an eight-week trading cycle. You will use the Terminal to define your market assumptions, develop a return-generating strategy and execute trades over a closed network. The team that generates the highest return relative to the pre-selected benchmark and presents the best investment methodology at the end of the Challenge will win.
At Bloomberg, we believe in providing a unique experience to students. The Challenge will mimic the real-world, giving you an outlet for your investment ideas in a competitive environment. The Challenge is the future of university investment competitions and it provides the bridge between classroom theory and real-world investing.

How does it work?
Your team will have a $1 million notional amount to invest across any number of securities. For each stock you pick, you’ll designate the dollar amount for your trade from your available funds. Your team should come together to decide on your trade ideas and then submit them starting February 10th. The following are parameters for which securities you can pick:
- Notional $1M to invest
- Single name equities of MSCI ACWI index companies only – no ETFs
- Long only; no short positions
- No leverage
- No single position held by your team can be greater than 20% of the notional amount
After registration, you will have additional training and guidance on how to navigate the Terminal as well as tips on how to define your market assumptions, develop a return-generating strategy, execute trades and hopefully be in a position to win the Challenge! You will also be able to use the Terminal to communicate and collaborate with fellow team members and other students competing in the Challenge.
